How to use home project calculators
Measure the project area carefully, use the same units throughout, and add a reasonable waste allowance when materials require cutting, matching, breakage or spillage. Calculator results are planning estimates rather than contractor quotes.
Why waste allowance matters
Flooring, tile, lumber and other cut materials rarely use every purchased square foot. A typical project may need 5–15% extra depending on layout and complexity. Always check the manufacturer's instructions before buying.
